Abstract or Description:

As Latin America's pavilion officially did not participate in the 57th Venice Biennale, a symbolic and social diaspora overtook the void caused by lack of funds and political unrest. The case of the absent Latin American Pavilion awaked a 'mémoire involontaire' of artists, curators and authors from the region who advocate for contemporary discourses and practices in the arts. To broach the subject of presence, Reflektor M and its collaborators, Ediciones Popolet invited around 25 international artists, authors and curators to awaken haunting presences in their own stories of ghosts for the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.

This multi-colored, stencil printed artist book, contains images of artwork, photographs, text in both English and Spanish, in order to create a constellation of artists, artwork, and writing which speaks to the entanglement of history, erasure, representation, relationships, borders, haunting and imagined futures.

The chapter 'Algorithmic Desert' is a fictional piece which describes the relationship between Alex, a start-up entrepreneur and a 'smart' fridge. The story is based on a series of dialogues describing the algorithmic dynamics and dependencies between a dweller and 'smart' appliances. The piece is an existential examination of inhabiting a 'smart' home.
