Joseph-Lester, Jaspar, 2017, Book Section, (Re)Turning to the image In: Aßman, S. at al., (ed.) Wenden: Interdisziplinäre Perspektiven auf das Phänomen. Springer VS, Wiesbaden. ISBN 978-3-658-14804-1
Abstract or Description: | This book chapter explores the turn to the spatialised image in city planning, entertainment space and free economic trading zones. Replica monuments, streets and cities include Abbot Kinney’s Venice of America in California, The Venetian in Las Vegas, the Eiffel Tower in the central Boulevard of Tianduchen China and the City of New Songdo in South Korea. As spatialised images these urban developments signal the cultural, spatial and economic turn to new modes of capitalist production. Starting with an interrogation of images from each of the five sites this photo-essay considers how the internal logic of the photographic image has come to determine the embodied experience of the spatialized image. |
