Abstract or Description: | The work addresses the question of imitation through allegories of animals. Here the animal is a sign that refers to the act of depicting. It alludes to the idea of the animal as machine proposed by Descartes, and develops the possibility of the classical age artist as an apparatus as well, condemned to the mechanical reproduction of appearances. |
