Berry, Josephine, 2026, Journal Article, Planetary Aesthesis, Not Animal Citizens e-flux (#160). ISSN 2164-1625 (Unpublished)
| Abstract or Description: | Here the ethical framework of accountability politics based on its presupposition of the individual subject of free will and culpability is critiqued. Such a framework sits in contradiction to the contingency and mutual dependencies of selves grasped through ecological and non-western paradigms. Berry asks what implications accountability's limit might have for processes of ecological accountability as well as efforts to ascribe rights to nature? Against the rights based politics of citizens, she argues for the vital role of aesthetics in relating to, and becoming response-able towards, planetary life in all its diverse forms. |
