  • The neon hieroglyph: British art show 9

Shani, Tai, 2021, Show, Exhibition or Event, The neon hieroglyph: British art show 9 (Unpublished)

Abstract or Description:

The largest touring exhibition of contemporary art in the UK, the ninth edition of British Art Show is curated by Irene Aristizábal and Hammad Nasar. British Art Show is a landmark touring exhibition, widely recognised as the most important recurrent exhibition of contemporary art produced in the UK. Organised every five years, it brings the most innovative and exciting contemporary art produced in this country to four UK cities. British Art Show 9 has been developed at a precarious moment in Britain’s history that has brought politics, narratives of identity and questions of agency to the centre of public consciousness. The featured artists respond in critical ways to this complex context, imagining more hopeful futures and exploring new modes of resistance. They do so through film, painting, sculpture and performance, as well as through projects that don’t sit easily in any one category. British Art Show 9 is a Hayward Gallery Touring exhibition, organised in collaboration with institutions across the cities of Aberdeen, Wolverhampton, Manchester and Plymouth.
