Plender, Olivia, 2021, Other, Olivia Plender website UNSPECIFIED.
Abstract or Description: | Developing artist Olivia PLender’s website, which was supposed to represent their entire body of work, highlighted how the ways in which images and text can be organised and made accessible within a digital platform are entirely different than those in a book. This became all the more apparent as we had worked together on a book following a series of shows (Rise Early, Be Industries, 2016). Working on the website required different processes of selection, organisation, navigation, where rather than focusing on the way things would look on screen, how material would end up there became a key concern in the process. Taking the different affordances of a website into account in trying to represent a body of work in which many elements are durational, collaborative, process- and negotiation oriented – in other words, less visible – enabled an approach that therefore helped build a narrative that situates the practice in all its layered complexity. |
