Talbot, Emma, 2018, Show, Exhibition or Event, 21st Century Sleepwalk

Abstract or Description:

A large scale one-person exhibition, of all new site specific work, including a range of media - painted silk hangings, drawings, three dimensional figures and structures, sound and lighting - installed across all three ex-warehouse spaces of the contemporary gallery Caustic Coastal and in the nearby Salford Lad's Club. The work in the exhibition proposed philosophical and poetic reflections on our psychological distance to our own birth, our own death and the 'Sleepwalk' in-between. The work considered the experience of a contemporary 21st century citizen and their entangled relationship to the regeneration of the city, to technology and nature. It also mused on contemporary narratives about a Sci-fi future and the potential to make change. A silk painted hanging was installed simultaneously at Salford Lads Club, connecting the two sites for the first time and extending the scope of the exhibition. A Public Art work - a banner on the exterior of the building- was commissioned and produced .
