Abstract or Description:	Henry Moore’s work can be understood as a vital part of the aesthetics and politics of Herbert Read, one of the most important theorisers of art and culture in Britain in the mid-twentieth century. This essay explores why Moore came to occupy an exemplary position in Read’s thoughts about the relationship of the individual and the community.
