Harriss, Harriet, 2015, Conference or Workshop, Paper: Feminism as a design tool at Feminism and Architecture Part 2: Women, Architecture, and Academia, New York, USA, 4 April 2015.
Abstract or Description: | This paper considers the extent to which Feminism is a design tool: a reflective strategy that enables architects to design with others in mind and address the needs of everyone regardless of race, gender, language, class, (dis)ability and cultural difference. Like any other design tool it influences the process of production, expression and perception of design ideas, and involves a unique and specific set of creative skills. Feminism also knows all about life on the periphery, about the personal as well as societal cost of exclusion. Feminism identifies with others who are marginalised, and knows the importance of and relevance of their experiences is to determining the needs of society. |
