Cheang, Sarah, 2018, Show, Exhibition or Event, Where are you going?

Abstract or Description:

This collection of images is the culmination of an artist’s project on human hair as waste in public places. It explores the themes of hair as an animate and natural object after its social and cultural death, and waste hair as a metaphor for the cycles of death and re-birth. These are images that test the limits of our comprehension of human life, through chance encounters with hair off the head that speak to cycles and reincarnation, loss and transformation, creation and extinction.

The collection will be shown in a group exhibition that is being curated by anthropologist Emma Tarlo, whose recent Leverhulme Fellowship charted the upcycling of waste hair in Asia for the global hair market, and Pooja Sood, Director of the Kohj International Artist's Association.
