Matthews, Bob, 2015, Show, Exhibition or Event, Abstract Apartment
Abstract or Description: | The project Abstract Apartment that has resulted in two exhibitions since it’s conception in 2015 has been examining the fundamental qualities of abstraction and its ability to react and reflect upon change and displacement. Working from the influence of historical models such as the Bauhaus and the architectural visions of Superstudio this project considers in greater detail the role that artists play in the formation, negotiation and function of living and working space. Through an ongoing series of installations within a re-purposed industrial building in the East End of London the project is reflecting on the future purpose and potential demise of the artists studio and explores the itinerant form between studio, workshop, gallery and domestic space, in the backdrop of economic and social change within the city. Both exhibitions were presented at Deborah House, Hackney, London in Summer 2015 and 2016. |
