Dutson, Claudia, 2019, Show, Exhibition or Event, The Model Worker
Abstract or Description: | The Model Worker is a VR installation immersing the visitor into a replica of a real architectural space: the Silicon Valley Campus – a typology of architecture where over 2500 workers sit in a single 'non-hierarchical' space to – it is claimed – increase collaboration and serendipitous connections. The visitors can freely walk around the entire building, inviting them to question the myths a company tells about itself, its management culture and its working practices. The Campus is a site where personal desires for meaningful work are enfolded within company missions. Management philosophies centre on enabling the realisation of an employee’s full potential, and the architecture of the Campus is a total environment that facilitates the provision of wellbeing, the manufacture of shared objectives, and the quest for self-actualisation. |
