O'Riley, Tim, 2018, Show, Exhibition or Event, Tailspin [Of Average Sunlight]
Abstract or Description: | A display of artists' books at the National Poetry Library (Royal Festival Hall), 'Of Average Sunlight' was curated by Finlay Taylor and Susan Johanknecht and originally exhibited at Kingsgate Project Space in March - May 2017. Tim O'Riley's contribution, 'Tailspin', is a laser-printed, A6 book and features an interior horizon appearing to spin. This 180° roll is reproduced as a sequence across the book's pages. Images of an aircraft's flight instruments bookend the sequence, specifically a gyroscopic pitch-bank or 'artificial horizon', which is used to determine an aircraft's attitude in flight. This possibly enables readings of orientation and lost (or regained) control. |
