The exhibition 'Home Futures' is a collection of essays dedicated to exploring the effects of new technologies on the home. My essay is a compensatory account of the persistence of archaic, symbolic and imaginary elements in the home - focusing on the contributions of artists and designers who have stressed the primitive, anxious and numinous elements of home- making.
