Abstract or Description: | The book comprises photographs of audiences of punks club in London between fall 76 and spring 77. It is the first time that the material is gathered together in a comprehensive form. An ontroduction places the project within a study of urban signs and meaning wher clothing is the main communication vehicle and form that articulates an aesthetic of rebellion that is self made. Recalling Levi Strauss's idea of Bricolage, punk aesthetics combines and recycles cultural signs to produce certain effects and transgressions. The photographs ,taken by Olivier Richon and Karen Knorr are also an investigation of portraiture. The clubs become a studio in which light and darkness are a backdrop against which the audience become the primary object of attention. The work Punks exists as a publication and an exhibition. It has been shown at the following venues: Punks. Ibid Gallery, London 17 January -22 February 2014 Youth Codes.Materia Gallery, Rome 18 March - 28 April 2016 Punks in Britain.
