Thompson, Milly and Jones, Alison, 2012, Show, Exhibition or Event, ÉVASION
Abstract or Description: | The group exhibition ‘ÉVASION’ (devised and curated by Alison Jones & Milly Thompson included Josephine Meckseper, Martha Rosler, Nicole Wermers and Jones & Thompson) deconstructed women's uncomfortable relationship to ‘women’s magazines’. The exhibition revealed the apparatus of competition, commodification and self-exploitation through a range of explicit performative strategies: hyperbolic advertising - (‘advertisement’ poster for ‘ÉVASION’), self-publicity (artists’ book ‘VUOTO’ with an 'editorial' by Nina Power) and a self-reflexive performance 'by' a gallery employee (‘ÉVASIONISTA’, 'live sculpture and creation' by Jones & Thompson). |
