Mclean, Flora, 2015, Show, Exhibition or Event, Vine Party Hat / The Fabric of the City

Abstract or Description:

McLean was one of fourteen exhibitors at the 'Fabric of the City' exhibition, a major contemporary textile exhibition showing work from leading East London textile and fashion designers, celebrating the legacy of Spitalfields' Huguenot Weavers. The exhibition, conceived and curated by Gina Pierce, invited local designers to respond to the works of the Huguenots silk weavers to create their own original pieces. Exhibitors were granted first-hand access to archive material from the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Museum of London where Huguenots fabrics are held.

McLean's Vine Party Hat was inspired by a dress studied in the V&A archive. It is laser cut acrylic; lines were etched on the surface with glass pigment used to colour the areas with leaves.
