| Abstract or Description: | This essay attends to the archive of airletters sent by the young student artist Sue Irons (who later became Senga Nengudi) to her mother during her year of study in Japan, 1966-67. It illuminates the stretch and sustaining force of airmailed letter writing, its Black feminist solidarities and networks of care, and the importance of these transpacific letters to her "dearest mother" to her emerging practice. |
