Abstract or Description: | The book 100 x 100 Design in Chile displays a selective overview of Chilean design. The publication articulates reflective proposals on the ontological construction of knowledge, history, memory, and aesthetics of Chilean design. This multidisciplinary list of projects highlights the context and the process of their realisation, highlighting their active role in discovering the environment and the strategic place in society. The chapter focuses on the legacy of Juan Downey, pioneer artist of 'invisible architecture.' Downey's work is characterised by the speculation on the power of intangible energies and spatial socio-political dynamics that would come with technological development. The review is based on three works from 1969 showing different phases of his research in 'invisible architecture'. The first work 'With Energy Beyond These Walls' focuses on the visualisation of invisible energies. The second work 'Invisible Energy Dictates a Dance Concert' broadens the discussion by incorporating the micropolitical implications considering the power and control exercised by architecture. Finally, 'Invisible Energy Plays a Concert in New York' refers to techno-energy transactions positioning Chile as an exporting country of culture. |
