‘The Presence’ is an ongoing performative artwork, part of a larger body of research into the value and significance of charisma in society. This iteration of ‘The Presence’ was part of the group exhibition ‘This is the Gallery and the Gallery is Many Things X’ at Eastside Projects in 2018. For ‘The Presence’ individuals who self-identify as possessing charisma were instructed to visit to the exhibition and fill the gallery with their charismatic presence. Individuals made a single, anonymous and unannounced visit of any duration during exhibition opening times. In the exhibition a sign was displayed announcing that a charismatic visitation would take place each day.
