Rolfe, Nigel, 2017, Show, Exhibition or Event, Never Learn. Closing Performance.
Abstract or Description: | Nigel Rolfe's performance is a triptych of drawings on papers with text and actions associated with failure to learn and broken democracy. From a continuing set of action drawings made in various situations, galleries, festivals and inside and outside spaces worldwide. Caught between body and material workings, using repeated cycles of actions producing marks and layers to make drawings. These from the political to the personal, often using text with gesture made live at their moment of being and discovery. There are complex overlays from hand to body, dust and pigment clouds to repeated action drawing of marks and movements leaving traces and memory at one and the same time. The central contention of Rolfe’s practice is that art making is a live and vital engagement. |
