  • Six Short Films from the 'Under 5's Archive'

Strutton, John, 2015, Show, Exhibition or Event, Six Short Films from the 'Under 5's Archive'

Abstract or Description:

Video works from “Under 5’s Archive” were presented as a 30 minute film screening with public Q&A with curator, Caleb Madden, about the archive and the approach to making these kinds of videos.

The “Under 5’s Archive” is a collection of under 5 minutes videos made over the past decade or so. All of the films have been recorded on mobile phones and each work is a response to the everyday chance collision between an anecdote, situation, image or overheard phone conversation. Imagery is constructed through the use of drawing, painting, photography, crude forms of animation and mobile phone footage. The archive of works forms the basis of a YouTube channel that uses tagging and keywords to attempt to embed the works in the broad arena of conversation facilitated by social media. The soundtracks to each film are combinations of recorded and text to speech narrations with music drawn from a long standing collaboration between Strutton’s band “Arthur Brick” and musician and sound engineer Riccardo Carbone.

Dear Serge is a FREE bi-monthly event at the De La Warr Pavilion showcasing the best in cutting-edge live music, performance and art.
