Two works comprise ‘Ritual Volcanic’ - a short looped video, '5000 years ritual VOLCANIC', and 'IUNX', a small sculpture (both 2013).
Thompson used mobile footage of an old woman beach-combing in Sardinia, dressed in bright yellow bikini bottoms and a head-scarf. She was self-contained, fashion-conscious and relaxed. ‘IUNX’ was the merging of a paper shopping-bag and a volcano. The combination indicated the timeless ritual of the woman’s pleasure and pastimes.
The themes in this work and exhibition have been extended through later collaborations with Alison Jones, and exhibitions such as ‘I Choose Painting’, ‘Cougar’, ‘BOGOF’ ‘Intreccio Mirage’ and ‘Aroma Venus’ and Thompson's residency with Akerman Daly, 2017/18.
