Jordan, Mel, Beech, Dave and Hewitt, Andy, 2014, Show, Exhibition or Event, Taking Sides
Abstract or Description: | For the exhibition Part of the Game, the Freee Art Collective produced a new artwork entitled ‘Taking Sides’ in which amateur football players were invited to take part in a five-aside football tournament. The teams were assembled not in terms of clubs or friendship but through a choice of slogans printed on the kit. Freee produced ten slogans, each slogan was printed on five football shirts, teams will be formed by each player choosing her favourite slogan; the team is not made up of the best players but those that agree with the same slogan. The audience or spectators of the game, likewise, did not shout for a team based on geography or glamour but political slogan, and spectators supported their favourite slogan by wearing a scarf with the slogan printed on it. |
