Klimowski, Andrzej, 2013, Art or design object, The Lift (film)

Abstract or Description:

THE LIFT- a short experimental film (approx 10 minutes). Writer and director: Andrzej Klimowski. Director of Photography: Witold Stok B.S.C. Music: Lech Jankowski. Sound: Slawek Kwi. Costume Design: Danusia Schejbal. Producer: Marek Serafinski. November 2013

The Lift is a short experimental film, using a combination of live action and animation. The action takes place in a contemporary European city, where the action is briefly pushed back into the eighteenth century, psychologically affecting the two main protagonists. The scale of the architecture shifts disorientating the viewer.

A music teacher’s visit to an old aristocrat’s villa has unexpected consequences when as past and present become confused. A short lived action scene, in an otherwise animated film made with drawn characters and painted backdrops, offers a moment of lucidity. The film examines how memories and dreams can distort our view of reality. The scenario has been written and the shooting script and several backdrop artworks have been completed. The project will resume after the completion of the books. This work will have impact for academics, public and private sectors, policy makers and the general public. It has been funded by the Serafinski production company and Film Polski.
