Bottazzi, Roberto and Klein, Tobias, 2010, Show, Exhibition or Event, Molecular City

Abstract or Description:

Installation project speculating on alternative modes of planning and experiencing urban environments by employing Augmented Reality [AR] technology.
Molecular City aims at involving the public to create their collective hybrid city by superimposing virtual architectures onto maps of existing cities via AR. The aim is to acknowledge that cities are dynamic environments affected by both visible (physical) and invisible (virtual) phenomena and change how we design them.
Over the next three years I will develop a systematic research on the implications of AR technology on urban design; one of the most important challenges twenty-first century urbanism will have to address. Theoretical and practical issues related to the notion of the archive, accessibility, participation will be explored.
