King, Simon, 2025, Other, Court Circular UNSPECIFIED.

Abstract or Description:

Through its combination of black-and-white montage photography, scripted voice over, use of time and place-related antique postcards, and an original sound design, the performatively structured Court Circular – drawing upon the language of English civil jurisprudence – is intended as a walking-as-time travelling essay film that starts out from the old Lambeth County Court (now repurposed as ASC art studios) in Kennington, south west London. Having its origin in an invitation to contribute a public walk by the Brazilian artist Joao Villas as part of a group show located in these premises just before the announcement of the UK’s Covid-19 lockdown in spring 2020, Court Circular draws upon a series of email exchanges that imagined a walk in the vicinity of the court house between walking art collaborators Simon King and Corinne Noble (writer-researcher and artist respectively working together as N&K) as they sought to circumnavigate the restrictions placed on walking socially and working together creatively.* As the voice-over dialogue reveals the film is also intended as an explication of methods in the collaboration between King and Noble which include their concepts of looking into and looking onto, the bringing into play of antique postcards and literary quotation as well as the employment of hermeneutics and phenomenology in their interpretation of time and place. The film is a collaborative effort that brings together the following talents: Cast: Tom Cridford Corinne Noble Simon King Director: Simon King Photography/Editor: Jimmy King Sound Design: Laurie Langan
