Barrios-O'Neill, Danielle and Pappas, Grace, 2021, Show, Exhibition or Event, Sensorial landscapes: The marine frontier (Unpublished)
| Abstract or Description: | Water covers over 70% of our planet’s surface, and makes up 60% of our own bodies. We are profoundly dependent on it. But how well do we understand its complexities as a living environment? Its fluidity and structure? Its place in our psyche? Its inhabitants and their experiences? Its force and effects on the systems it generates and sustains? In this symposium we invite artists, researchers and the public to join a conversation about water and our relationship to it. The Marine Frontier is part of an ongoing project of sensing and locating cultural value outside of our own assumed boundaries as a species — this time, crossing the marine frontier — and discovering how this can translate to public and cultural spaces. We aim to celebrate and push forward the ways in which heritage experiences express, enable and enhance our relationship to water and the sea, for the benefit of humans and nonhumans alike. |
