Ghani, Atif, 2024, Conference or Workshop, Impact of film festivals in contemporary climate of cultural production a discussion with British Short Film Festival director Philip Ilson at Breeze Film Festival, London, Uk, 2024-10-23 - 2024-10-30.
Abstract or Description: | This was a Q+A which I facilitated with British Short Film Festival Director Philip Ilson. I began with a discussion about my 1st short film THE DRIVE and how in 1995 there was a sense that a short film was the way to finance a more ambitious short, or a low budget feature film. But things have changed dramatically since 1995. Themes which we were interested in exploring with Philip included: Tell us about your journey , into films and film festivals? What is the importance of festivals in the life of a cultural product? What is the position of the short film in the age dominated by advertising and social media? How has streaming affected our viewing patterns, in particular attending and valuing cinema going and film festivals? What are your thoughts on the opportunities and audiences for more Artist Film and Video projects – whether gallery-based work or more experimental cinema work? |
