“You & Your Images” disseminates the EPSRC research on Privacy Awareness. We designed an experience that aimed (1) to increase one’s knowledge and literacy about the consequences of disclosing private information in images shared on social media, and (2) to help visitors become more familiar with techniques for protecting private information. You & Your Images has implemented the findings from the research which hypothesis were to use images as a tool to raise awareness about digital privacy, hence induce protecting behaviours towards personal information. By combining and integrating knowledge from the disciplines of Design (experience design) and Computer Vision (image classification and privacy protection) we developed an interdisciplinary methodology, in the shape of an interface. This simulated the experience of being profiled and the consequences of sharing private information. The interface was a means to design a dialogue between a sample group of 200 people in the UK and profiling algorithms. Through it, we tested their self-efficacy in protecting private information extracted from images that are normally shared on social media.
