Abstract or Description:

This paper introduces a preliminary framework to address upcycling from an object-based perspective. In this context, a bidirectional multi-level taxonomy is presented to address notions of manufacturing, sustainability, circularity, and respect for the environment. Based on research findings, the authors recommend the integration of Object-Oriented-Upcycling strategies in the design process, as they insert a method for the re-materialization of local waste, enhancing sustainability and reducing carbon footprint in the process. Ongoing work is being dedicated to developing a system-based approach to Object-Oriented-Upcycling, as well as, testing and validating the framework presented
