  • Let’s have a laugh: software that converts speech into laughter

Dare, Eleanor, 2016, Other, Let’s have a laugh: software that converts speech into laughter National Audiovisual Institute (NInA), Warsaw.

Abstract or Description:

Let’s have a laugh was a paper presented by Alexandra Antonopoulou and Katerina Antonaki at the international conference Laughter in Visual Communication held at the National Audiovisual Institute (NInA), Warsaw. A significant part of the paper was about software designed by Eleanor Dare for converting speech into laughter. The software exposes the boundaries of language's ability to articulate human experience, in particular the limits of symbolic representation to capture that which is embodied and often sub-symbolic. The wider conference was 'devoted to the role of sense of humor in communication, problem and conflict solving in the Age of Robots.'

The “Laughter" consists of interdisciplinary presentations and workshops related to communication, interactivity, services, social-, graphic-, object- and interior design as well as psychology, philosophy, history and performing arts, including short videos and films.
