Abstract or Description: | Contextualision of the originality of the work by Yeseung Lee 'Seamlessness : Making and (In)knowing in Fashion Practice'. The book developed from Dr Lee's doctoral research at RCA Fashion. As supervisor my conceptual agency is present in the work. This Foreword offers a framing for the innovatioobn in material culture studies and in fashion practice studies. Dr Lee generates a new method for fashion design practice as a means of challenging the knowledge of body/garment/culture as a series of interfaces. The garment is not seen as inert matter but as a p[lane of reciprocal transitions between wearer and culture. The maker is, similarly, understood as a bearer of multiple agencies that integrate tacit knowledge, cultural, historical and social knowledges. The anthropology of rites-de-passage and material culture are used creatively to generate new paradigms for practice-led research in fashion |
