Abstract or Description:

In a project between the Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design at the Royal College of Art in London and the Cambridge Department of Engineering, we have explored the space of the possible for the future inclusive human machine interface in vehicle design. A collaboration between anthropologists, psychologists, engineers, vehicle
designers and an illustrator, understandings of people’s experience of driving in the here-and-now became a scaffold to imagine potential technologies. The process involved a constant interplay across temporalities, disciplines, and perspectives, and so informs the discussion on the methodological and theoretical implications that emerge from ethnographies of the possible.
