de Cordova, Denise, 2015, Show, Exhibition or Event, Lies and Camoflauge

Abstract or Description:

An open submission collaborative research based project (Denise de Cordova and James Fisher) selected for The Project Space at London Art Fair 2015. The artists share an interest in texts and visual imagery that focus on notions of wilderness and nature, often drawing upon accounts by specific explorers or wandering travellers to develop work. For both artists it has been important to make journeys in the same or similar landscapes, in order to experience first hand spaces and places that would otherwise remain imaginatively ‘remote’. The method used to produce work was based on Surrealist Exquisite Corpses principles, with one of the artists making something that the other responded too. This has continued to develop as a project, facilitating the production of new and unanticipated work. This includes a new sculpture ‘Heshe, Heshe’ 2016, and a wood cut print produced during a Print Residency at the University of Worcester with Garage Editions in 2015. The print was exhibited at Grand Magasin @ Deux, Racing Green, London, in 2015, and was based on the ‘Dark Bella’ character produced for LAF. A digital print has also been produced, ‘Sound Track to a Bodied Place’ 2016, that incorporates a both a photographic image and text based on the Dark Bella series. This was exhibited, with ‘M’Dear Medea’ 2012 (embroidery thread and acrylic on paper) in ‘Kicking an Elephant Through a Catflap’ as part of Creative Differences: Dyslexia and Neurodiversity in Science, Art and Design, at the RCA in 2016.
